Popping turns map locations into communities where users connect and share life in real-time.
ATLANTA, GA. (March 13, 2023) - Atlanta-based startup Popping has launched a new social media app that takes nearly any location on a map and transforms it into a space where users can connect and share life in real time. Popping users can easily connect with people sharing the same experiences, like dining at the same restaurant, staying at the same hotel, or attending an event in the same stadium, and stay connected to their important communities, like their school, neighborhood, gym or church. Popping lets users scope out a scene before they go, see what’s popping with their friends, and check out what’s happening in their favorite places, from anywhere. The app lets users create posts, called “pings,” to share into their chosen map location, or “hub,” ensuring a relevant audience to confidently share casual or personal thoughts, feelings and experiences with.
“Popping is here to create a better, more inclusive world by transforming how people connect, build community and share life in every place,” says founder and CEO Jennifer Petrosky. “We already have ways to share the perfect photo, curated thoughts, updates to friends or recommendation with our neighbor. What we lack is a connection to the people and life happening around us, wherever we are. I believe that when people can connect on what they already have in common—a place—we will focus less on our differences, and more on the experiences, communities, and world we share.”
The Popping app offers features like posting text, image, and video content, following other users, and sending direct messages. Popping users can view or post to any hub, from anywhere, or post to the “Popping” hub when they want to share with the general Popping community rather than a specific location. Users can make their ping into a “pop,” which makes it disappear after a user-determined amount of time (from 1 minute to 24 hours). Users can enjoy tailoring their feed to view what’s popping at places nearby, at their favorite spots, with those they follow, and what’s trending globally.
“Today, there’s a plethora of different social media platforms for getting messages out and sharing photos,” says Popping user, @Eric. “But none let me have a local conversation that can be tailored to the physical communities and cities I’m in, or about to visit. I’m excited to be able to finally engage in conversation about what’s going on, and connect with new people in whatever place I happen to be in. This is the young Millennial and Generation Z’s response to Twitter.”
Influencers and businesses will benefit from Popping’s unique ability to put places at the center of the conversation, giving them an instant connection to their most relevant, local audience. Businesses can easily share timely news updates and special events, flash offers and sales, and even create polls to get real-time feedback from their community—all in their dedicated hub.
The app is free to download and use and is now available on iOS and Android in the U.S. for users 13 and older. For additional information, visit www.popping.social and direct inquiries to media@popping.social.
